Thank goodness, you're already in the best place to get our fact-checked, LGBTQIA+ delivered, quality queer journalism - because the world's most powerful men are lining up to make it harder for you to see it anywhere else.

This week, as we'll cover in the top story, Meta, Apple and X all supported Trump's ascent to power, throwing LGBTQIA+ people under the bus to do so.

So much of our world is determined by the handful of unelected billionaire straight white guys behind these companies. Their algorithms control what we see, when we see it and how we're allowed to engage with it. This is an unprecedented accumulation of power that the world has never seen before.

To run our independent outlet, we need to grow - and fast - to keep the lights on and keep delivering the information you need to navigate what looks set to be a dark period of time for all of us, whether we be gay, queer or Trans+.

You can help us do that in one of two ways:

We're not going anywhere. No matter how hard the billionaires try, QueerAF's independent queer journalism is still going to be here in you and your friends’ inboxes - every Saturday.

We are queer as fuck, and so are you.

πŸ’¬ This week:

  • Meta: On the same day Trump's official Presidential transition began, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg announced rules changes allowing a wave of LGBTQIA+ hate speech on Instagram, Threads and Facebook. We examine this dangerous move.
  • The Vivienne: RIP James Lee Williams, who died suddenly aged 32 this week. Tributes have rolled in for Drag Race UK's first-ever winner.
  • Am I Demi? In this week's Queer Gaze, Adrien Birch shares how they came to understand their demisexuality - and how liberating it’s been.

Skip the doomscrolling and support queer creatives instead. We are QueerAF – and so are you.

Meta will allow LGBTQIA+ hate on Instagram and Facebook, aligning with Trump and Elon Musk

TL;DR: Mark Zuckerburg has announced an end to fact-checking on Meta platforms. Mimicking rhetoric and tactics by free speech absolutionist Elon Musk, Zuckerburg said fact-checkers efforts had "gone too far" at degrading free speech. As a result of the move, LGBTQIA+ hate will now be allowed on Meta's platforms.
